Redemption Hill Easter Egg Hunts

One of Redemption Hill Church's sayings is "In the City, For the City." We live this out through various "Serve Medford" efforts during the year.  One of the biggest events we put on in the spring is an Easter Egg Hunt. For the past three years, on the Saturday before Easter, we have welcomed hundreds of families to two community parks to hunt for Easter eggs. We distribute over 6,000 Easter eggs in addition to, face painting, balloon animals, church members dressed up as Curious George, photo booths, and prizes! Each year we have seen more families come and participate.













When events like this are successful it is easy to boast in our greatness, but I am thankful to boast in the Lord's greatness.  Three years ago no one from the Easter egg hunts came to visit Redemption Hill, but we still put it on the next year. Last year the Lord was faithful and we had two families visit on Easter and are still regular attenders! This year we had three families visit on Easter and are praying they visit again soon. Please pray for the Teng family, the Duff family, and the Pajaro family. We have also seen the Lord's faithfulness through mission teams that helped distribute thousands of door hangers and stuff hundreds of goody bags. We have seen the Lord's faithfulness through the chilly, but dry weather we have had every year. We have seen the Lord's faithfulness through unexpected financial support. And lastly, we have seen the Lord's faithfulness through many Gospel conversations we are able to have with the parents, aunts, uncles, and friends of the kids.

Please pray for the families that we were able to share with, that they might visit Redemption Hill and continue to hear the good news of the Gospel. We are excited to see many of these families again at Soccer Nights and Community Fun Night. We'll continue to love our city and expect the Lord to do great things through us!

Meet the Team: Joel & Jennifer Smith

            Where did you graduate from and what did you study?

 Joel and I both graduated from Clemson University. Joel studied American Sign Language and I studied Special  Education.

             What led you to do Generation LINK?

 A year and a half ago, Joel got the opportunity and privilege of leading the SummerLINK team to Boston. We were engaged at the time, and while he was there, he kept telling me how much he enjoyed getting to know and learn from the leadership team at Redemption Hill Church. Over the summer, Joel grew a great respect for Tanner and John, the pastors of RHC and wanted to spend more time learning from them how they led their church. That summer, before I came to visit the SummerLINK team in Boston, Joel asked me to pray and consider if the Lord may be leading us to move to Boston. It was during my visit that the Lord made it clear that He was calling us to Boston. We spent time prayer walking through the city, and it was during that time that we felt the Lord leading us to move here. Generation-LINK provided the way for us to move to Boston, be trained theologically and equipped in ministry under the leadership of Redemption Hill Church.

Which location and what areas of ministry do you serve with through Generation LINK?

Joel and I serve at as College Ministry leaders at Redemption Hill Church in Medford, MA (Greater Boston).

 What are you most excited about in your area of ministry?

It is our prayer that these students would grow in their love of the Lord and commitment to His word, and zealously share the good news of Christ with other people on their campus and in their spheres of influence. We are most excited about seeing Christ exalted as students come to faith and grow in their love and knowledge of our Savior!

What 2-3 books have been most formative in your walk with Christ?

Well besides the Bible…  :)

What are your favorite things to do in your free time?

Joel: Fishing & Camping

Jennifer: Anything outside, hiking, exploring New England, and talking with friends

We both are pretty plain…just a coffee (but I leave room for cream and lots of sugar!)

Meet The Team: Carrie Lee

This post is part of a series called "Meet the Team" introducing you to our Generation LINK staff. We hope it will help you 

get to know Generation LINK staff members serving around the country a little better.

              

Where did you graduate from and what did you study? I graduated from Clemson University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

What led you to do Generation LINK? After moving to Boston in 2010 for Micah's job, we quickly got involved with Redemption Hill as they prepared to launch. During this time I worked as a full-time nanny, volunteering with the children and college students at Redemption Hill. After feeling the Lord's call to do more for Him I stepped down from my job as a nanny in February 2013 so that I could serve Redemption Hill full-time.

Which location and what areas of ministry do you serve with through Generation LINK? I am on staff with Redemption Hill Church in Medford, Massachusetts, primarily working with children and college students.

What are you most excited about in your area of ministry? Over the past eight months I have enjoyed seeing our children's ministry expand as the Lord grows our church. The Lord continues to encourage me by providing volunteers who are faithful to serve. I am amazed at His grace when He uses me to help equip, support, and encourage parents to train their children in the things of God.

   A Gospel Primer by Milton Vincent

   Knowing God by J.I. Packer

   Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

What are your favorite things to do in your free time? I enjoy scrapbooking, baking, and DIY projects from Pinterest. Micah and I enjoy going for a run on a crisp, fall New England afternoon or snowboarding during the winter. We have also enjoyed preparing our home for Baby Lee who is due to arrive in November. 

What is your typical coffee shop order? Almost anything that will keep me warm!
