Hey there from Honduras!
It's been great being here and getting to know one another for the past week and a half and can't wait for what God has in store for us the rest of the trip. We have done so many exciting things and had really awesome gospel conversations with some of the people here.
Let's do a quick recap of what we've been up to. We pretty much travel along the northern seaboard of Honduras each week going from the slums (called The Dump), to the Bilingual school, to the recreation fields in three nearby towns all week. That's to say, we pile up, all nine of us (excluding some of the Pirkle family that comes along), in one large truck to get to all of these places. Here's a few pictures from a couple of the places.
God already has shown His sovereignty and His love for His people while we've been here. He's provided for us several opportunities to share the Gospel and shown us some true Christ followers. Just today at the bilingual school we had an awesome conversation with one of the seventh grade students, Jonny. He was such an encouragement for a boy rooted in the Word and living his life for the Lord. We began to tell him the story of Shadrach, Mishach, and Abednego, and he tells us the story in great detail. So then we ask him to relate the story to Jesus and his crucifixion and he gave an astounding answer. He told us that just as Satan believed Christ was dead for good on the third day yet God raised him from the dead, so did King Nebuchadnezzar think that these three were dead in the fiery furnace but God protected them their as well. The conversation continued where we encouraged him in his faithfulness to the Lord and to doing His work in a town that, just like us, needs Him. We really look forward to growing in our relationship with him in our time here.
In the midst of all this hard work and early mornings, we do make some time to play. This past Saturday the team was divided into three smaller groups and we had a little fun doing a photo scavenger hunt in and around the hospital community. We had to take pictures doing all sorts of funny things like pretending to eat a gecko, doing the chicken dance with the front guards and things of that sort.
God is good and continues to show us His love and power through all we've been doing. We are looking forward to the opportunities He presents us with to share the Gospel and to just love on His people.
