Inspiring Internationals

International Ministry at Crosspoint Church has been growing and thriving thanks to God's extravagant grace!  Events like weekly International Women's Craft Time, Christianity Explored, Football parties and Chai stands have given church members opportunities to build individual relationships with international students.  There has also been many opportunities for international students to hear about Jesus and His precious gospel!


Monday and Tuesday of this week was a beautiful time in the mountains at Camp McCall with nationalities from all over the world!  Iranians, Uzbekistanis, Indians, Chinese, Brazilians, Germans and Americans attended.  This event was hosted by the International Student Association of Clemson University but several Generation-Link staff and Christian college students were able to attend as well.


While hiking, skeet shooting, swinging, eating camp food, bunking down in cabins, and ziplining, we were able to build relationships with these students, hear their life stories, and share our faith!  We are very thankful for a couple of days to get away and share life with men and women from such diverse cultures.

Praise the Lord for opening up doors and hearts.  Many students are interested in learning more about Him!  Pray that He will continue to soften hearts and minds to Himself.  Pray for our International Student Bonfire Bash this Friday night, that relationships between Crosspointers and Internationals will develop and continue to grow after this weekend.  If you would like to come, meet us in the Victoria Square parking lot at 7pm to ride out to the Dillman's farm.

The Great Northern Adventure: Spring Break 2011

March 19th-24th twenty-five college students, twenty-five international students, and 7 Crosspoint staff spent their spring break in New York, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis. The international students were from ten different countries including places like China, India, Russian, Tunisia, Iran, and Germany! Weems Creek Baptist church in Annapolis, MD was kind enough to host all 57 of us in 17 different homes.

The purpose of the trip was for Crosspoint college students to spend time building relationships with international students. Did you know that at Clemson there are over 1,000 international students from more than 80 different countries? At Crosspoint, we desire to be faithful with the gospel by seeking to reach these students with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was getting to partner with the Baptist Collegiate Ministry at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. We had the chance to walk around the Naval Academy and then join the midshipmen in BCM for dinner. After dinner we participated in the BCM weekly meeting. It was a lot of fun to interact with the midshipmen and to see a part of Annapolis that a lot of people don't get to see!

Another favorite part of the trip many students have mentioned is the stay in their host home. The students seem to really enjoy getting to have dinner with their family and being a part of their lives. I pray these students would see a picture of the gospel through the hospitality of these families.

Overall, the trip was a huge success (I mean, no one got lost in New York)! The students seemed to form close relationships with one another. There were many opportunities to have good conversations and to share the gospel. Hopefully, these relationships will continue into the summer and fall. Please pray for the relationships that were formed and international students in Clemson, SC.

International Student Association Fall Break Trip

November 1st-2nd thirteen Crosspoint members attended Clemson's International Student Association fall break trip. The trip was in Sunset, SC at Camp McCall. There were approximately 45 international students and 20 Americans who attended. The nations were well represented with students from India, China, Ghana, Turkey, Iran, Ukraine, Germany, and many other countries!

We began Monday morning with a beautiful hike. Once we got to the top of the mountain we ate our lunches and spent time getting to know one another better. The rest of the day, we did the ropes course, swing shot, and other fun things that camp McCall has to offer. That night, we had a campfire and many international students had their first experience eating a smore! The Camp McCall staff also took us on a night hike to a spooky house called "the rice house."

On Tuesday, we spent the day doing more fun activities around Camp McCall. Unfortunately, fall break quickly ended and that afternoon we departed and made our way back to Clemson, SC.

It's a great blessing to be able to participate on trips like this one with Clemson University. It is our prayer at Crosspoint that the relationships built will continue on well into the future.

Spring Break DC

No matter what school you go to, spring break has always been a big part of the college experience. While many head to the beach to get a tan, or back home to catch up with family, most college ministries usually take a mission trip of some sort. The usual fare is a trip to the beach to witness to tourists, a work trip to help with disaster relief, or to the inner city to minister to the poor. I have personally been on each of these types of trips, and all have been great experiences.

This year, however, our college team wanted to do something different. In light of our developing international ministry, Jenna Wayment came up with the idea to take international students on a sightseeing trip during the break. So last week our team took 46 students to Washington DC for five days. Half of these students were from China and India; the other half were American students from Crosspoint Church. The result was a wonderful trip – probably the best one I have ever been on!



Our trip began Sunday, March 14, and after a day of travel, we arrived in Annapolis, MD and headed to host homes set up through Weems Creek Baptist Church. The host homes were what made the trip so great. Not only did we get to share rooms with students from different countries, but they were able to experience life in the home of an American family. We had breakfast each morning with our family, and spent one night eating dinner together. I heard several stories from the internationals that this was a great time of fun for them.

Monday through Wednesday, we spent our time in the DC area. Together, we saw the Capitol and Mount Vernon; the rest of the time groups split up and saw everything from the monuments, the Smithsonian museums, Arlington Cemetery, the White House, Chinatown, and the International Justice Mission. At the end of the day we were all worn out, but it was worth it! Wednesday night, we ended with a potluck dinner provided by Weems Creek and then walked around downtown Annapolis.

A big thank you goes to the folks at Weems creek for being so hospitable to us and cooking us great southern food! You all were great!

The next day, we headed home and made it back safely. Overall, it really was a great trip. So many friendships were formed and we were able to have endless conversations about what we believed, cultural differences, and ultimately, about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the reason we went out of our way to show love to these students.

Please pray these friendships continue and that the Gospel will continue to be displayed to the nations through our church!

The Alpha Course

What is the meaning of life? How can I forgive? Why don't you save everyone? How can you expect us to believe in something that we can't even see? Why would a loving God send someone to hell? What is the purpose of life? Does my life matter? What relevance does Jesus have today?

Have you ever asked these questions? Have you ever had a friend with questions like these? This February through April, Crosspoint is holding the Alpha Course at 7pm in the student union every Thursday evening.

The Alpha Course began in London in the late 1970's. Today, over 13 million people worldwide have attended an Alpha course. Alpha is an opportunity for anyone and everyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting

So far, there has been an average of 5 international students attending the course regularly. These students come from Agnostic, Buddhist, and Hindu backgrounds. We have had great discussions and these students have asked very difficult questions as they seek to understand Christianity. Please pray for these students and for the discussion leaders and volunteers.

God's Heart for the Nations: International Student Ministry

Did you know that there are over 1,000 international students from more than 80 countries on the Clemson campus?  Did you know that a majority of these students come from countries antagonistic towards Christianity like China and India?

One of our goals as a church is to have every person who attends Crosspoint embracing a DNA of the Great Commission locally and abroad.  It is incredibly strategic to seek to reach international students while they are right here, in our own backyard!  "Why is it strategic?," you may ask.  I'll give you a few compelling reasons why,

1. About 750,000 international students come to the U.S. each year and currently less then 10% are reached by the Church in any manner.
2. Students are from the highest socio-economic class in their nations.  They are the future leaders in government, education, business, and military.
3. In India, 99% of the mission effort is among the bottom 50% of the population.  We can reach the top 5-10% of the Indian population right here, in Clemson, South Carolina!
4. From Genesis to Revelation, God's Word commands us to bring the gospel to all nations (Genesis 12:1-3; Isaiah 49:6; Jonah 4:11; Matt 24:14, 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Revelation 7:9).  Taken from Genesis to Revelation: God's Heart for the World.

I am excited to share with you that Crosspoint Church has begun a ministry this year to reach international students on our campus!  God has already been working in many incredible ways.  Through cookouts, hiking, meals in homes, women's times, and many other events, relationships have begun to be formed!  Ultimately, we desire to have events not just to have more events, but to build relationships with these precious students. Through these relationships, we are praying as a church that the gospel will be shared and disciples will be made!  It is an incredible opportunity for these students come to know Christ, grow in a local church, and be sent back to their home countries to make more disciples!  Please join us in praying for international students on our campus.
