CP Group Update

One of the many privileges of being on staff with Generation LINK is the opportunity to lead a small group in the context of the local church. Crosspoint Church and Generation LINK share the same DNA of discipleship, which means that it is a priority for each Generation LINK staff member to be meaningfully involved in a Connecting Point (CP) group. Crosspoint offers a great variety of CP groups for all members and attendees, ranging from gender-specific groups to multigenerational coed groups. CP groups are the best avenues through which Crosspoint attendees can quickly and meaningfully assimilate into the life of the church. 

As a part of the Generation LINK college ministry staff, I have the blessing of leading a CP group for upperclass guys. We all gather together on Sunday nights in order to pray, study the Word, confess sin, repent of sin, serve and encourage one another. I have been blessed to have a potential future GLINKer, Jonathan Whittle, co-lead with me. The Word is the central and essential component in our gatherings. I thank God for the genuine love for the Word that these upperclassmen possess by the Spirit of God within them. This semester, we have walked together through a biblical view on Relationships and through God's sovereign work through the life of Joseph as recorded in Genesis. I have witnessed and experienced a growth in our group's understanding of God's sovereignty over our circumstances, through which he is working all things toward his grater plan of redeeming man for his glory.

This semester, the guys in our group have met with a different guy from the group during the work week in order to spend time getting to know each other better, praying for one another, studying the word together and encouraging one another in their walks. Through this time together, our guys have become very unified and transparent together which has led to greater authenticity and frequent repentance. I thank God for his maturation of these men of God and for their faithfulness to his Word and his Church. Many of the guys in the upperclass CP group have chosen to pursue membership at Crosspoint Church because they desire to serve meaningfully and understand the biblical precedent for commitment to the body of Christ via membership in the local church. This community is a blessing and leads me to worship God for his great character and desire to share himself with his people. Ultimately, I am thankful to God for the opportunity to serve him in the local church through Generation LINK.

Upperclassmen Men's CP Group

Hey everyone,

This past year I've had the opportunity to lead an upperclassmen men's small group (connection point group).  What a blessing they have been to me, the church, and the Clemson community.  This group composed of two men I have led in past small groups since their freshman year.  Also, there were three men from the India SummerLink trip I led this past summer.  One guy that was sent my way as he hungers for discipleship.  Another who played football with me in our annual Crossbowl football game.  Another who longed to evangelize.  And someone who had once attended a small group in a previous year, left, and  came back as his friends asked him to come.

Why bother to tell about each person?  Each person testifies the Gospel in the life of Crosspoint.  Men who desire and pursue Biblical fellowship as freshman, men who take the Gospel overseas to the unengaged and unreached peoples, men who desire growth and discipleship, men who attend and engage in churchwide fellowships, men who desire to reach the lost, and men who bring other men to engage in the Gospel in a small group.

Our small group studied Ephesians and a book by Mark Dever called What is a Healthy Church?  We passed out water to Greek intramural flag football games, cooked out for some of the Greek students, and prayer walked in the Greek quads.  We went camping together, took the upperclass women's group camping, and served the ladies supper one night.  We prayed for each other and encouraged one another to live the Gospel.    We discussed the importance of articulating the Gospel on a platform, how to listen to those speaking on platforms, and how to healthily respond after hearing someone speaking the Gospel on a platform.

These men live the Gospel and the Spirit continues to teach them.  It has been a joy to lead these men and serve alongside them.

A Season of Thankfulness

As I reflect on my time in Generation Link, I can’t help but notice God’s hand in the past year and a half and how I have so much to be thankful for. Even in just looking back on this semester, I can see so many of God’s blessings on Crosspoint Church and in my life. We kicked off the semester with a celebration of Crosspoint’s five year anniversary. It’s been a blessing to be part of the congregation for the past four and a half years of that celebration and to watch how God has grown the church.

We celebrated with a faux lake fellowship (it was relocated to the auditorium because it was rained out). It was a blessing to listen to the testimonies of life change within the congregation over the past five years.

Our sermon series for the semester has been in Ephesians. We have been studying God’s plan of salvation and how salvation is not something that we can do to earn but it is a gift of God’s sovereign grace. It is such a blessing to be at a church where God’s word is not only preached on Sundays, but that the pastors also equip the congregation to dive into the word deeper daily with a planned study guide and the accountability of small groups.

As we just celebrated Thanksgiving, one of my favorite events of the year is the thanksgiving fellowship, because it is a time where the entire church comes together to share a meal. Now that we are at two services it’s not as common to gather together as one body so the times that we do come together are valued.

I’m also thankful for by CP group and having the opportunity to celebrate thanksgiving with them. They have definitely become a family to me as we walk the Christian life together through good times and difficult times, holding each other accountable, encouraging one another, and praying for one another.

I’m looking forward to the Christmas series as we are about to start digging into Isaiah and studying how Christ was the one prophesied to come. Jesus is God’s biggest blessing to us and I most thankful for the gift of salvation that God has given to me.
